War Memorial at John F. Kennedy Plaza
Strasse der KZ-Opfer curves around to JFK Plaza where you
will see a war memorial designed by Abraham Borenstein for the
Dachau '95 project. It is located on the north side of the intersection
of Friedenstrasse and Sudetenlandstrasse. Near this spot on April
29, 1945, American soldiers in the 45th Thunderbird division
first saw the abandoned "death train" with the corpses
of 2,310 prisoners who had been evacuated from Buchenwald three
weeks before and didn't make it to the camp alive.
