Sign erected in 1987 at section of preserved railroad
track near old SS camp
The railroad spur line that ran from the train station to
the SS camp was removed in 1985, but a section of the track was
preserved as a memorial. The sign says that tens of thousands
of prisoners were transported to the concentration camp on this
railroad line between 1933 and 1945. Most of the prisoners had
to walk 3 kilometers from the station to the camp along Friedenstrasse.
The 45th Thunderbird division soldiers entered the camp complex
through a railroad gate near here.
