Entry into Dachau prison compound was through this gatehouse

Prisoners had to go through two gates to enter the prison compound, first through the main entrance on the south side of the Dachau camp complex, then through the gatehouse shown above. The famous "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign on the gate is a reconstruction. There was another gate into the Dachau complex, which included a railroad gate, on the southwest side of the SS camp.
