Appellplatz where prisoners lined up for roll call
in front of service building
This huge expanse of gravel is the Apellplatz, where the
prisoners had to line up to be counted morning and evening. Incoming
prisoners entered through the red-roofed gatehouse, then went
to the west wing of the service building, shown on the left,
where they were registered and issued a striped prison uniform.
New museum exhibits in the west wing opened in 2003. In front
of the west wing, you can see one of the memorial walls of the
International Monument
