Gate through the Jourhaus was entrance into the camp
for the prisoners
The gate house was the first masonry building in the new
"model camp" built at Dachau. Before that, the prisoners
were housed in the buildings of an old World War I gun powder
factory which was originally located here. The design of this
gate house was used as the model for similar gate houses at Buchenwald
and Sachsenhausen. Just outside the camp, through this gate,
were factories in the SS section of the complex. Prisoners marched
through this gate on their way to work, while an orchestra played.
