Reconstruction of wall, barbed-wire fence, and moat
which originally surrounded the camp
This is the view of the camp that you see in front of you,
as you enter the Memorial site. The reconstructed ditch only
extends part of the way down the wall. In front of the reconstructed
wall is a path where guards could patrol and in front of the
wall, an electrically charged, barbed-wire fence strung between
concrete posts. In front of the fence is a roll of barbed wire
and then a concrete-lined ditch. In front of the ditch is a strip
of grass. Prisoners who ventured onto the grass strip were shot
by the guard without warning.
