Dachau Concentration Camp prisoners in a barracksroom after liberation

This picture, taken after American soldiersliberated the Dachau Concentration Camp, shows the crowded conditionsof the barracks. The men in the center aisle are standing up,so you can tell that there is another lower tier of bunks notshown in the picture. According to Marcus J. Smith in his book"The Harrowing of Hell", these bunks were 32 incheswide and 7 feet long and there were no mattresses. Notice thehelmet of an American soldier in the center of the picture, whois flanked by a civilian in a hat and another hatless man to hisright, both of whom appear to be Americans touring the camp.
