St. Peter's Catholic Church in Geseke, GermanySt. Peter's church in Geseke has only an empty space where the high altar used to be. According to the changes made by Vatican II, the high altar in a Catholic church is to be placed in such a way that Mass may be offered, whenever possible, by the priest facing the people. In many Catholic churches, including St. Peter's church in Geseke, the beautiful, ornate high altars have been removed. Catholic churches typically have two side altars, one on each side of the high altar. Shown in the photo above is a side altar in St. Peter's church which features a Jewish memorah and a flag with the Jewish star of David. PreviousBack to Church indexHome |
