Entrance to Carmelite Convent is through remodeled
guard tower
The Carmelite Convent, which stands outside the north wall,
was opened in 1964. This is a large complex consisting of a Catholic
Church and 21 houses for the residents. The buildings have the
same roof line as the former concentration camp barracks. Dr.
Johannes Neuhäusler, a former prisoner who was instrumental
in getting both the church and the convent built, is buried inside
the church.
