Detail of a sculpture at the International Monument
The triangles in this sculpture show the colors of badges
worn by the inmates. The Jews wore a yellow triangle combined
with a red or blue triangle to form a star. Red was for political
prisoners and blue was for foreign workers in the camps. Purple
was for the Jehovah's Witnesses. A bar over the triangle meant
that the prisoner had been released and was then arrested and
brought to the camp for the second time. A red dot meant that
the prisoner had been assigned to the punishment barracks.
