Hartheim Castle Exhibits

Glass display cases in one of the exhibit rooms show the charts used by the Nazis to compare eye color and hair color and a device for measuring the shape of the skull. These devices were used by the Nazis to determine the race and ethnicity of people, but they were not used to select people to be killed in the gas chamber at Hartheim. Almost all the text accompanying the exhibits is in German, so I am not sure if the exhibit is implying that people were murdered at Hartheim because their eyes were not blue enough. The few people with African blood in Germany were sterilized by the Nazis; these were the mixed-race children of German mothers and French soldiers who occupied Germany after World War I.
