Berchtesgaden - a town in Bavaria

The town of Berchtesgaden is located near Hitler's Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) and can be easily reached by train; there are several hotels and it is an inexpensive place for tourists to stay overnight. Across from the Berchtesgaden Bahnhof (train station) is a Tourist Office where one can join a tour to the Obersalzberg where Hitler's Berghof once stood and then on to Hitler's former tea house, called the Eagle's Nest by Americans.

Near the town of Berchtesgaden is a National Park where the famous Königssee is located. Hikers can easily walk to the Königssee, which is 5 kilometers from Berchtesgaden, or one can take a bus to the lake. The Königssee is King's Lake in English; it is Germany's highest lake.

The photo below, taken from the Eagle's Nest, shows the Königssee in the center, surrounded by the Bavarian Alps.
