Jewish and Christian prisoners are buried side by
side at Waldfriedhof
After liberation, 2,226 Dachau prisoners died in the month
of May and 196 more in June, before the typhus epidemic could
be brought under control. The bodies of 1,268 of them were buried
by the citizens of Dachau at Waldfriedhof. The Jewish prisoners
who died on a death march from the Flossenbürg concentration
camp to the Dachau camp were also buried here. A Jewish monument
designed by Dieter Aldinger was placed on May 1, 1964 in front
of all the graves, although 90% of the grave stones have a Christian
cross.
