Old crematorium was built in 1940

In the early years of the Dachau concentration camp, the death rate was low and only one oven with two retorts was needed to burn the bodies. Heinrich Himmler, the head of all the concentration camps, ordered the cremation of corpses at all the camps in an effort to stop the spread of contagious diseases.The old crematorium faces south and is located on your left as you enter the crematoria area. It is directly across from Baracke X, the new crematorium building.
