House of the Minute
Franz Kafka lived in this building, called
the House at the Minute, near the Old Town Square in Prague,
from 1889 to 1896. Kafka was a writer, whose most famous book
is entitled The Trial.
Church of Our Lady
of Tyn
Franz Kafka lived at one time in a house
behind the Church of Our Lady of Tyn. He worked as an insurance
clerk for most of his life and died of tuberculosis at the age
of 40. His 3 sisters died in the Holocaust. Kafka is buried in
the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague.

A Plaque marks the spot where Franz Kafka
was born on July 3, 1883 above the Batalion Schnapps bar at the
corner of Maiselova and Kaprova streets. The original building
has long since been torn down.
Kafka's most famous works, The Castle
and The Trial were not published until after his death
on June 3, 1924. The Nazis banned his books in 1933. After the
1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, his books were not published
again until 1990, after the fall of Communism in 1989. This building
has photos of his life in Prague.
